The European Urban Charter / Reclaiming City Streets for People

EXPEDITIO is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to encourage sustainable spatial development in Montenegro and SEE region through activity in the fields of sustainable architecture, cultural heritage, urban planning and through projects that encourage overall development of the civil society. Expeditio was established in 1997.

"The European Urban Charter" treats the development and concept of a town in Europe, the elements of urban life (local democracy, urban policies, cooperation of towns, urban rights), as well as the principles which should be foundation of all individual aspects of urban life, such as: transport and mobility, environment and nature in towns, physical form of cities, urban architectural heritage, housing, urban security and crime prevention, disadvantaged and disabled persons in towns, sport and leisure in urban areas, culture, multicultural integration, urban management and urban planning, economic development in cities.

"Reclaiming City Streets for People" is a publication which sets out case studies of eight European towns (Kajaani, Wolverhampton, London, Nuremberg, Strasbourg, Ghent, Cambridge, Oxford) which have applied a new concept of “traffic evaporation” in order to address, in an adequate and efficient way, the problem of increasing traffic flow and traffic congestion and contribute to enhancing the quality of urban environment.
